8 maintenance tips to help your heavy truck to run smoothly

Read our maintenance tips to ensure that your heavy truck is trouble-free when you’re on the go.

1. Changing fluids

Heavy trucks require that the fluids be changed based on the load you haul, the roads on which you operate, whether they are city or highway roads, and the miles you cover. Notice the condition of the brake fluid, the windshield washer fluid, and the brake fluid to change it to prevent your truck from breaking down.

Like many fluids that circulate through various components of your truck’s steering, power steering fluid should be flushed periodically. Your brake fluid also needs frequent change because it absorbs moisture from the air, which makes it less efficient.

Make sure to change the windshield washer because if dust quickly builds up on your windshield, you will have trouble seeing ahead while driving. Changing the fluid will protect your windshield from damage and help you to drive safely.

2. Keep an eye on the tires

Checking your tires without delay is essential,  especially when traveling with your truck on highways. Problems with your suspension or tire pressure issues often cause uneven tires. That is why, to avoid a tire blowout, you need to inspect them regularly.

Try to rotate your four tires regularly to maintain the same amount of treadwear on all the tires of your heavy truck.  Rotating the tires will also help to increase the life of your tires and reduce vibrations. It will also help the mechanics at Point Spring to check how soon your tires need replacing.

3. Clean the exterior of  your heavy truck

Cleaning your heavy truck frequently will make it look nice and help the paint last longer by removing all the dust and dirt. It may sound torturous when I advise you to clean the exterior of your truck, especially when it snows.

Keep in mind that the paint of your truck will get damaged quickly if you do not clean the sand and salts that build up on your truck when you drive on the roads.

4. Check the air filters

When the air filter of your heavy truck gets blocked, it will prevent your engine from getting sufficient air, which will lower fuel economy as the power will reduce.

This usually happens if heavy trucks are driven on highways or dynasty roads. Hence, it is essential to keep your filter clean so that the engine of your heavy truck runs smoothly.

5. Use synthetic oils

Synthetic oils are a much better option for your heavy truck compared to conventional oils. This is because synthetic fluids increase the longevity of your truck’s engine and improve your vehicle’s ability to perform better when in dangerous situations.

6. Monitor the brakes

Not maintaining the brakes of your heavy truck can cause severe accidents, especially when you need to stop your vehicle safely while carrying a heavy load. Check your brakes regularly and change them immediately upon seeing the slightest bit of wear and tear.

7. Check the clutch and gearbox

If your truck carries heavy loads, that means your clutch and gearbox work hard whenever you drive your vehicle. Check the gearbox frequently to see where it is functioning correctly and also look for any problems that could arise soon.

In the meantime, check and see if the clutch is slipping, as it can be dangerous for your heavy truck unless it is changed.

8. Inspect your truck regularly

Although it can be costly and time-consuming, try to take your heavy truck frequently for inspection to catch any mechanical problems.  Also, frequent maintenance will increase the longevity of your truck, which you will be able to drive for many years.

Conclusion

Now that we have told you our 8 maintenance tips on how to keep your heavy truck smoothly so that you don’t face any challenges on the roadway. Make sure that you take your heavy truck regularly for inspection to see if there is anything wrong with it.
